Well said. On the thrid point, I think the exegesis of Lazarus is a bit far-fetched, but the point is well-taken. However, I have tried in the past, I have thought I had such persons in my past — pastors, in fact — and every time they have betrayed me to family and church. I don’t have a Christian in my life that I can tell my deep, dark secrets to. I have some non-Christians that know things about me, but they don’t see them as problems… But after the last time I trusted somenoe that much, I seriously thought about leaving the church altogether. I don’t know how or if I would even be willing to try to open up like that again. What do you do with someone like me?

Jesus’ idea of life is counter-cultural. We, as a culture, even in the Church, have bought into deadly ideas and practices that are so ingrained that they are very difficult to change… May God cause His people to follow Him.

Good handling of a definite problem in the church. I have had people tell me, in a similar vein, that the elect give birth to elect. I have said there is no such promise. There does seem to be a tendancy towards the elect giving birth to the elect, but it is hardly a promise. Likewise, some have argued that the passages in Isaiah that refer to God’s blessing “the city” are also promises for all cities today.
